International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego, California

Watch our 2022 festival event video! It will put a smile on your face—maybe even bring you to dance a little bit. So turn up the sound and fill up your screen!

Three days of non-stop mobile filmmaking fun, learning, connecting and networking, supporting and entertaining programming only begins to describe the event.

The 11th Annual Edition of San Diego’s International Mobile Film Festival took place April 29, 30 and May 1st.

It was a full weekend “party” focused on bringing filmmakers from as far as the United Kingdom and several places in the U.S. like New York, Utah and Los Angeles together with some San Diego locals.

#MFF2022SanDiego’s theme for the 2022 edition was Elevate!

The scene was Marina Village just a stone’s throw from the world famed Sea World and Pacific Beach. The best fish tacos were in abundance! The Hotel Del Coronado was just across the bridge. Attendees and participants came for the festival and enjoyed a little vacation in our beautiful city.

Many of the filmmakers had already met online, and been supporting each other through our social media, mainly on Twitter. It was a bit of a reunion with a great community vibe.

The IMFF has been supporting, promoting and celebrating making movies for the cinema using mobile phone cameras since 2009. As the first festival of its kind as a traditional film festival we are pioneers. But it’s always been a unique experience, not only because all the films are shot with mobile phone cameras, but because the founder and director Susy Botello is a passionate advocate, proponent and supporter.

This was the first in-person festival since the event lockdown in 2020, just weeks before the scheduled event. The festival in 2020 quickly moved to an online virtual event on schedule during the last weekend of April, as is customary since the inaugural festival in 2012.

IMFF included a workshop presentation, six full length feature films, 25 short films, four Rookie short films, Q&A Panels and presentations, the unique famed Red Carpet Extravaganza and an awards ceremony. Check out the program and details about each film.
